British Steel Teesside plant is a steel plant in Lackenby, England, United Kingdom that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Background
The Teeside plant was originally owned by Dorman Long from 1958-1967. In 1967, the plant was acquired by British Steel until 1999 when the company merged with Hoogovens to form Corus. In 2007 the plant was acquired by Tata Steel, but in 2016 was acquired by Greybull Capital and renamed to British Steel once again. In 2019, British Steel was acquired by Jingye. [1]
Transition
In 2023, British steel announced a ₤1.25 billion plan to install 2 EAFs, one at the Scunthorpe plant and the other at the Teeside plant, to replace the exisiting BOFs at both sites.[2] The plan was for both EAFs to become operational by late 2025. To fund the transition, British Steel owner, Jingye, requested ₤1 billion from the British government, but was offered ₤500 million.[3] The company turned down the offer, and instead began to move forward with scrapping the EAF plans, and potentially closing down steelmaking capacity at the Scunthorpe plant as well.[4]
