  • Operator: OQGN[2]
  • Owner: OQGN[2]
  • Capacity: 135 mmcf/d[3]
  • Length: 48 km[1]
  • Diameter: 24 in[1]
  • Start year: 2004[3]
  • Cost: US$18.6 million[1]

Background

In 2002, Oman issued a tender for the construction of a gas pipeline that would connect the Fahud-Sohar Gas Pipeline to the UAE's gas network via the border town of Buraimi. It was estimated that 120 mmcf/d of Omani gas would enter the UAE network.[4]

In 2003, contracts were awarded for the construction of a 48 km, 24 inch pipeline for US$18.6 million. It planned to deliver 135 mmcf/d on a limited contract to help fuel the Fujairah power plant and desalination plant. The pipeline was to be built with bidirectional capabilities so that Oman could choose to import gas later on.[1]

In 2004, the first Omani gas crossed into UAE en route to Fujairah. It was announced that after the 3 to 5 year contract expired, the pipeline would be used to import Qatari gas into Oman via the UAE when needed.[3]

In 2008, the flow was reversed.[5]
