China–Russia East Pipeline 中俄东线天然气管道 is a natural gas pipeline under construction in China. The first phase of 1067 kilometers was completed in December 2019.[1]

Location

The entire pipeline (Phases I, II, and III) runs from Heihe, Heilongjiang to Shanghai, China.[2].

Project details

The pipeline is described in three phases, and is ultimately expected to be 5111 kilometers in length[3] and deliver 38 billion cubic meters per year.[4]

Note in the pipeline tracker database documentation, the three phases below do not sum to 5111 kilometers, so an additional pipeline is added to account for the unaccounted for length.

Phase I (Heihe to Changling)

Hulunbuir Segment 呼伦贝尔支线

The Hulunbuir Segment was proposed in the Inner Mongolia 14th Five-Year Plan to connect the China–Russia East Pipeline to the Hulunbuir region in northeastern Inner Mongolia. As of October 2021, no pipeline details were available, and the route below is an approximation.

Sishui–Jining Segment 济宁支线 (泗水-济宁)

Construction on the Sishui–Jining Segment began in 2020. When it was initially proposed, the segment's capacity was 2.2 billion cubic meters per year[11], and when construction began, it was reported to be 3 billion cubic meters per year.[12]

Background

The pipeline's source is the Power of Siberia Gas Pipeline. In October 2020, ownership of the pipeline was transferred from CNPC to PipeChina.[5]

Construction for Phase I began in June 2015.[6] Once all phases are complete, the plan is to supply 38 billion cubic meters per year of natural gas by 2023.[6]

In January 2021, it was reported that Phases I and II were operating, and that Phase III was under construction.[3]
