Background on Mine

Dahegaon/Makardhokra IV Coal Bloack was allocated to IST Steel & Power Ltd. for their steel plant in Bellary, Karnataka; Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd. for their cement plant in Chandrapur, Maharashtra; and Lafarge India Pvt. Ltd. for their cement plant in Gulbarga, Karnataka on 17 June, 2009. The Mine of 1.5 MTPA was to be located in Dahegaon, Makardhokda and Shirpur Villages, Umrer Tehsil, Nagpur District, Maharashtra State, India.

Wardha Valley Coalfield Pvt. Ltd. was to develop the mines for these companies. In a submission to the MoEF&CC it was informed that Underground mining would be using Continuous Miner. The Committee was informed that a proposal for diversion of 182.93 ha forest land has been made and that life of the mine was to be 30 years. The projected capital cost of the Project was Rs 350 crores in 2011.[1]

However, the mines were de-allocated by Ministry of Coal on 16 November 2012 due to unsatisfactory progress on the development of the mining project.[2]
