Dalnyaya coal mine (шахта Дальняя) is an operating underground mine located in Topolevy, Krasnosulinsky District, Rostov Oblast, Russia.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the mine.[1]
Background
Dalnyaya coal mine is owned and operated by Donskoy Anthracite JSC. The company was previously owned by the Ukrainian DTEK but was sold to Valleyton Investments Ltd in 2022.[2] It appears that there were further ownership changes in 2023 - in June 2023 it was reported that the company is now owned by Russian-registered SBK Premier.[3][4]
As of January 2022, the mine was producing about 0.9 million tonnes of anthracite coal.[5] In 2022 Donskoy Anthracite has consolidated the mine operations with the previously mothballed Mine 410 with a view to increase production capacity to 1.3-1.4 million tonnes per annum by 2027.[5][6] Investments amounted to 1.5bn roubles.[5]
In 2022, the mine produced just short of 1 million tonnes, which was 30% lower than in 2021.[7] Difficult geological conditions were cited as one of the reasons of lower production.[8][7]
In 2018 there was one fatality as a result of the collapse of the mine at the depth of about 550m. More than 80 mine workers evacuated.[9]
