Background

The Dathwegyauk coal deposit is located near Tamu in Sagain state, Myanmar.[7] The mine is based on a deposit estimated to contain 33.9 million tonnes of sub-bituminous coal, as per 2011 report by the Pa’O Youth Organisation. The deposit was marked as discovered, but not actively mined as of 2011.[8]

A 2016 report by WWF, Intelligent Energy Systems, and Mekong Economics identified Dathwegyauk among Myanmar's largest coal deposits, citing an estimated reserve of 33 million tons, comparable to contemporaneous estimates for the nearby Kalewa (88 million tons) and Mawleik (89 million tons) deposits.[9]
