Background
Denisovsky Vostochny Coal Mine (шахта Денисовская Восточная) is an underground mine in Sakha Republic, Russia. The Denisovskaya Vostochny coal mine is operated by GOK Denisovsky JSC, which is owned by Kolmar LLC.
It is part of the Denisovsky Mining Complex (Денисовский ГОК) which also includes the Denisovskaya Central Coal Mine and Denisovsky Surface Coal Mine. Production data for these mines was typically reported on a consolidated basis rather than separately for each unit.
The mine was commissioned on the 9th of April 2021.[15][16] Its capacity is 4 million tonnes.[16][17]
Its 2021 production was estimated at around 2.5Mt as total GOK Denisovsky production of 6 million tonnes[18] less estimated production of Denisovsky Surface Coal Mine and Denisovskaya Central Coal Mine. In the first 6 months of 2022, the mine produced 1 million tonnes.[16]
As of April 2023, there were plans to increase monthly production to 0.4 million tonnes from the current level of 0.3Mt.[19] (annual equivalent - 4.8 million tonnes). This monthly target was said to be achieved in December 2023.[20] On this basis it was estimated that 2023 production was about 3 Mt, given the overall production of GOK Denisovsky of 4.3Mt in 2023.[11][10]
A government report on the coal industry in 2022 stated the plan to increase the mine's production to 4 Mtpa by 2026, with production anticipated until 2063.[21]
It was estimated that the Denisovsky coal mining complex produced approximately 5.4 million tonnes of coal in 2024.[22]
In 2025, Kolmar’s total coal production amounted to 10.4 million tonnes across its two mining complexes — Denisovsky and Inaglinsky (comprises Inaglinsky Coal Mine 1, Inaglinsky Coal Mine 2 and Inaglinsky Surface Coal Mine).[23]
Incidents and Regulatory Measures
An incident occurred at the mine in October 2024 where a rock collapse resulted in one fatality.[24]
In February 2026, underground mining operations at the Denisovsky Vostochny coal mine were suspended for 30 days due to violations of industrial safety requirements, specifically the operation of the “Conveyor Incline of Seam D15” without an approved mine development plan, which was assessed as posing an immediate threat to the life and health of workers.
