Background

Dexin Steel Morowali began operations in 2020 with 3.5 mtpa crude steel production and 3.8mtpa iron production through the blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) steelmaking route.[1] An additional 2.2 mtpa of BF capacity and 2.5 mtpa BOF steelmaking capacity is under construction with an anticipated start date of early 2022.[2][1] An additional 14 mtpa of BF-BOF steelmaking capacity has been proposed with an unknown start date.[2] The company is looking for sites in Indonesia for the additional 14 mtpa capacity.[3]

Dexin Steel Morowali is located in the Morowali Industrial park, which was built by the Tsingshan Industrial Board of Directors starting in October 2013.
