In 2011 energy from coal was 27% of the country's output.[1]

Proposed power stations

  • The Manzanillo power station is a proposed 1,000 to 1,500 megawatt (MW) coal or gas-fired power station in Montecristi (northwest), Dominican Republic. The proposed station is near the US$167 million project the North Energy Central (NEC) of the U.S. also announced in March 2012.[2]
  • In October 2011 Dominican Republic's State-owned Power Companies (CDEEE) said it will call for tenders to contract 600 megawatts spread over as many as three coal-fired units in various parts of the country.[3]
