EN+ Mugunsky power station is a potential proposed power station in Irkutsk region, Russia, with an unknown capacity.

Background

In June 2023, EN+ Holding, the energy arm of EN+ Group announced that it was assessing plans to build a new coal-fired power plant in Tulunsky district, Irkutsk region, which would rely on the Mugunsky coal mine.

Commenting on the prospects for the development of the group's coal assets, the head of EN+ Holding Mr Khardikov recalled that EN+ Holding had refused to sell its coal-fired generation. "Our coal deposits continue to provide the power plants with fuel. There is no alternative now, because gasification has not yet reached major Siberian cities. But we plan to invest in better technologies to improve the quality of coals, reduce emissions and utilise ash," he said.[1][2]

The capacity of the proposed power plant was not known.

A few months earlier, in March 2023, either a gas-fired or a coal-fired power plant was being discussed.[3] The area with the power deficit is the Irkutsk-Cheremkhovsky energy district, everything south of Tulun.[3]

As of April 2024, there was no further news on the project.
