Background

The Energía 2000 Manzanillo FSRU was originally announced in 2021 as part of a gas-to-power project that also included the 414 MW Manzanillo Power Land power station.[8] Plans called for the FSRU, with an LNG receiving and storage capacity of up to 143,000 m³, to supply gas to the power plant via a single-point mooring buoy and a 16-inch gas pipeline with subsea and onshore sections.[8]

In July 2024, Dominican president Luis Abinader presided over an official groundbreaking ceremony for the project, inaugurating a new dock designed to receive construction equipment and materials.[13]

In late August 2025, the Energos Freeze FSRU arrived in Manzanillo Bay.[14] The vessel received its first LNG cargo in January 2026 to supply test operations at Manzanillo Power Land.[15] The power plant was officially inaugurated in late March 2026[3], and the FSRU received its second cargo in early April[4], marking the initiation of full commercial operations.
