Background
The Manzanillo Power Land power station, along with the Manzanillo Gas & Power and Manzanillo Energy power stations, was one of three large gas-fired power plants announced by the Dominican government in the early 2020s to serve the Manzanillo region in the northwestern Dominican Republic.[15] Dominican president Luis Abinader attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant in December 2022.[15][16][17] The project was scheduled for completion in 2026[15], with gas to be supplied by the Energía 2000 Manzanillo FSRU.[9]
The project received syndicated financing from 11 banks, 9 of them international, but with only a few lenders publicly named: Banreservas, BHD, and CIFI Latin America. The project also received a $440m syndicated loan, the majority of it contributed by Banreservas and its subsidiary. Lindsayca was the EPC contractor for the project.[18][19][20]
As of March 2024, according to an article published by Dominican Today, the Manzanillo Power Land project had made "significant strides in construction, including the establishment of local control rooms for turbogenerators, a centralized control room, sewage collection treatment systems, a 295,000-foot tube well, structural foundations for the ACC-Air Cooled Condenser, and foundations for the HRSG Heat Recovery Steam Generation."[21] The same article confirmed that the plant's gas turbine (SGT6-8000H, 269 MW) and steam turbine (SST6, 144 MW), both manufactured by Siemens Energy, had arrived on site.[21] Progress has also been made in other areas related to the project, including transmission line infrastructure.[21]
Subsequent news reports in 2024 confirmed that construction was well underway and estimated that the plant would be ready to begin commercial operations between May 2025[22] and July 2025.[23]
