Gerdau Monroe steel plant is a steel plant in Monroe, Michigan, United States that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Background
The Gerdau Monroe steel plant began operating in 1980. In 2015, Gerdau invested $155.6 million into upgrading the facility.
In 2016, the plant was cited by the Department of Environmental Quality as having violated several emissions limits.[1]
In 2018, Gerdau announced an additional $70.3 million investment to add transformer, controls and mechanical upgrades to the EAF, among other things.[2] The project was meant to be completed by 2020, but carried on into 2021.[3]
In 2020, the plant was idled due to complications arising from the covid-19 pandemic. It was restarted shortly after.[4]
