Project details

Gubkinsky-Yuzhny Balyk I Product Pipeline

Balyk II Product Pipeline

Background

The currently operational product pipeline was built back in the 1980s. It is used to transport a wide fraction of light hydrocarbons from the SIBUR's Gubkinsky Gas Processing Plant to the SIBUR's Yuzhny Balyk Gas Processing Plant from where it is transported along the Purovsk-Yuzhny Balyk-Tobolsk Product Pipeline to the SIBUR Petrochemical Plant in Tobolsk. In 2023, a decision to replace the pipeline was made in order to mitigate risks for future periods without waiting for critical wear and tear.[1]

The Gubkinsky-Yuzhny Balyk Product Pipeline has a reserve pipeline, although it is uncertain whether it extends along the entire distance of the main pipeline or only covers a portion of it.[8]

Replacement and expansion of the pipeline (Gubkinsky-Yuzhny Balyk II Product Pipeline) was mentioned in the governmental document "On the approval of the territorial planning scheme of the Russian Federation in the area of federal transportation (gas and oil pipelines)" released by the Ministry of Energy of Russia in May 2015 and revised in November 2023. The document mentions new construction on the pipeline from Pyt-Yakh (Yuzhny Balyk Gas Processing Plant) to Nizhnevartovsk via Ugut (660-867 km).[6] Based on research, the new project will allow to increase capacity of the pipeline to 2.66 mtpa in order to accommodate additional volumes of light hydrocarbons which will be coming from the SIBUR's Nizhnevartovsk Gas Processing Plant and Belozerny Gas Processing Plant along the proposed Nizhnevartovsk-Yuzhny Balyk Product Pipeline.[1]
