Hainan Gas Pipeline Network 海南环岛天然气管网 is a pipeline network in Hainan Province, China with segments that are proposed, in construction, and operating.

Location

The network runs along the rim of Hainan Island in China.

Background

Hainan province locates on Hainan Island on South China Sea. CNOOC was the major gas pipeline developer for Hainan province. The source of natural gas includes the offshore oil & gas field on South China Sea and Hainan LNG Terminal in Yangpu. CNOOC built a rim gas pipeline around the island between 1996 and 2003 in two segments: east segment and west segment. The ownership of the rim gas pipeline was shifted to PipeChina after its establishment in 2019.

On Hainan Province's 14th Five-Year-Plan, the province plans to add 700 kilometers of gas pipeline mileage by 2025, forming a “田” shape of network.

到2025年，新建天然气主干管道及配套管道700公里、城镇燃气管道1300公里，累计投资650亿元，全面建成“田”字型输气主网络结构，实现“县县通管道”和城乡燃气全覆盖，天然气消费占一次能源消费比重提升至30%左右。

In 2018, PetroChina Kunlun Gas Company Limited Hainan Branch (中石油昆仑燃气有限公司海南分公司) was proposing a Middle gas pipeline in Hainan, containing a trunk line from Chengmai to Wenchang and four branches, totalling 293 kilometers. But no further news could be found. The project appeared to be abandoned.

The pipeline runs from Wenchang to Sanya, Hainan Province, China. The pipelines was proposed in 2017 and construction began in August 2018. It starts at Wencheng Town, Wenchang, passing Qionghai, Wanning and Lingshui. It ends at Yazhou District, Sanya.. In July 2021, the pipeline was commissioned and went into operation.

The pipeline runs from Sanya to Wenchang, Hainan. It starts at Yazhou District, Sanya, passing Dongfang, Yangpu, Haikou, and ends at Wencheng Town, Wenchang. The system consists of three pipelines:

Basuo-Nanshan Pipeline (八所-南山输气管道) 118 km in length, operating in 1996.

Dongfang-Yangpu-Haikou Pipeline (东方－洋浦－海口输气管道),246 km, began operating in 2003.

Haikou-Wenchang Pipeline (海口-文昌输气管道) 88 km, operating in 2010.
