Background
The Insani Baraperkasa (IBP) coal mine is an opencast mine, operated by PT Insani Baraperkasa, a subsidiary of Resource Alam Indonesia, north of Samarinda, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.[12] As of 2016, PT Insani Baraperkasa, a subsidiary of Resource Alam Indonesia, operates the coal mine. The concession is divided into eight coal deposit blocks, namely Simpang Pasir, Bayur, Tani Bakti, Gunung Pinang, Loa Janan, Separi, Perangat, and Maukiri.[13]
For the nine months ended September 30, 2024, the company reported revenue of US$257.16 million, an 8.77% increase year-on-year, with coal production rising 15.69% to 4.67 million metric tons and sales volume increasing 19.81% to 4.91 million metric tons, attributed by the company to demand from China, India, and South Korea.[14]
IBP holds multiple mining business licenses (IUP) in Samarinda covering a combined area of approximately 1,973 hectares, valid through January 16, 2036, according to Minerba One Map Indonesia (MOMI) data reported by Niaga.Asia.[15] This license validity period extends beyond a 2026 target for ending coal mining activity in Samarinda that was stated by the city's mayor; local officials subsequently clarified that the target applied only to specific permits expiring in that year rather than to all operators in the city.[16]
In October 2025, IBP received the Satya JKN Award 2025 from BPJS Kesehatan, Indonesia's national health insurance agency, in the category of top-performing private company with 100 to 499 employees, for compliance with national social security obligations.[17]
