Background

The Imetame power station received a preliminary license from Brazil's environmental authority IBAMA in October 2019.[6]

Initial plans called for the power plant to be supplied with gas from the proposed Imetame LNG Terminal, and to begin generating electricity between 2024-2038, contingent on the project's success in Brazil's 2020 energy auctions. In January 2020 Total Gas & Power Business Services signed an agreement to supply natural gas to the station.[7]

The Imetame power station was listed as a participant in Brazil's national energy auctions as recently as June 2021.[8] As of February 2022, a government summary of public responses to Brazil's 10-year energy plan (2022-2031) mentioned the Imetame I plant as a project still under consideration[9], though the plant did not compete in Brazil's national energy auctions in 2022.[10]
