Background

The Imetame LNG terminal would supply natural gas to the 1638 MW Imetame I power station proposed by Imetame Energia near their headquarters in Aracruz, Espírito Santo state. Imetame Energia obtained a preliminary permit for the power plant from Brazil's environmental regulatory authority Ibama in October 2019, allowing the project to compete in Brazil's future national energy auctions.[1] Construction of the terminal was to depend on the success of the power plant project in the auctions.[1][2][4] In January 2020, Total Gas & Power Business Services signed a letter of intention to supply gas for the project, whose anticipated start date was expected to be as early as 2025, pending results of the energy auctions.[3][5]

According to a July 2021 report from Brazil's national energy research agency, the Imetame terminal remained in the licensing phase, still awaiting a final investment decision.[6][7]

As of July 2023, no further development of the Imetame Terminal has been reported for more than two years, so it is presumed to be shelved.
