Background
In February 2025, JSW Steel announced its plan to set up a 25 million tonnes per annum capacity steel plant in Gadchiroli which has huge reserves of superior quality iron ore with an investment of 1 lakh crore. The entire plant will be built in seven years, and the first phase is expected to be complete in four years.[1] By July 2025, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has initiated the process to acquire 3,500 acres for the plant.[2] As of September 2025, the corporation was planning on taking over 9,100 acres in Chamorshi tehsil of Gadchiroli district for setting up the plant.[3]
