Background

In February 2025, JSW Steel announced its plan to set up a 25 million tonnes per annum capacity steel plant in Gadchiroli which has huge reserves of superior quality iron ore with an investment of 1 lakh crore. The entire plant will be built in seven years, and the first phase is expected to be complete in four years. By July 2025, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has initiated the process to acquire 3,500 acres for the plant. As of September 2025, the corporation was planning on taking over 9,100 acres in Chamorshi tehsil of Gadchiroli district for setting up the plant.
