Background on Mine
The reserves of JK-5 OC Expansion Project are going to be exhausted in 2022-23 and in order to sustain coal supplies to linked thermal power plants, it is proposed for conversion of closed 21 incline UG mine into an opencast by amalgamating with adjoining JK-5 opencast project for utilizing its voids for dumping of OB in the name of Jawahar Khani Opencast Mine. It is proposed to obtain Environmental Clearance for the proposed Jawahar Khani Opencast Mine with a production capacity 2.50 MTPA (Peak-3.75 MTPA) . [6]
