Jayaswal Neco Industries Raipur steel plant is a blast furnace (BF), direct reduced iron (DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India.

Background

The Jayaswal Neco Industries Raipur steel plant was established in 1996. The plant began its iron-making process and in 2004 an electric arc furnace was also added shortly after. The plant also includes five captive power plants with a combined capacity of 60 MW.[1]

In 2016, the plant's blast furnace was briefly shut down due to technical issues, affecting the year's production.[2]

In July 2021, a group of Maoist rebels attacked the plant, setting fire and causing damage to equipment. One employee was killed.[3][4]

Expansion

A 570-ttpa electric arc furnace expansion is planned to be completed in 2025.[5] Some sources including the company website and an environmental clearance dated October 06, 2021 mentions that it will increase capacity by 2000 ttpa, although the breakdown of this intended capacity is unclear.[1][6] In October 2021, the Jayaswal Neco group submitted its environmental clearance report to the local Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change.[7]
