Jindal Steel Angul steel plant, also known as JSPL Angul steel plant (formerly), is a steel plant in Angul, Jindal Nagar, Odisha, India that operates blast furnace (BF), basic oxygen furnace (BOF), direct reduced iron (DRI), and electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Location

The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Angul, Jindal Nagar, Odisha, India:

Background

The JSPL Odisha plant houses India's largest 4.25 mtpa blast furnace.[1] On 22 August, 2021, JSPL announced its plans to expand capacity of the Angul plant from 6 mtpa to 25.2 mtpa liquid steel (24.79 mtpa crude steel) by 2030. The expansion is planned in two phases. The company had already received approval from Odisha’s State High-Level Clearance Authority, headed by Chief Minister of Odisha.[2][3]

JSPL embarked upon capacity expansion through setting up a newly incorporated wholly-owned subsidiary- Jindal Steel Odisha Limited, JSOL. The capacities being set up in JSOL (6. MTPA liquid steel and 5.5 MTPA finished steel) are equally large as compared to the existing total capacity of JSPL (9.6 MTPA liquid steel and 6.65 MTPA finished steel). Both the entities are expected to have significant operational linkages in terms of sourcing of power, raw materials and semi-finished products besides expected synergies in procurement of raw materials and marketing of finished products.[4]

JSPL Angul in July 2025 invited expressions of interest for offtake of 3,600 tonnes per day of CO2 across its two units.[5]

In July 2025, JSPL officially renamed itself as "Jindal Steel Limited" (JSL).[6]
