Background

The Jining Yangcheng power station is a power plant that supplies energy to operate the nearby Yangcheng Coal Mine, which is also owned by the Luneng Coal and Electricity Co., Ltd.[1] Coal for the plant is sourced from the Yangcheng Coal Mine. The plant has an annual power generation capacity of 1.65 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh).

The plant was proposed in 2005; the Ministry of Environment and Ecology approved it in 2006, with government approval subsequently following in June 2008.[2][3] Construction for the plant began in 2008 as well, with an investment of 1.35 billion RMB (208.6 thousand USD). The plant is equipped with ash/dust removal, desulfurization, and denitrification technology. Both units began operating commercially in 2010.[3]

The Jining Yangcheng power station was included in a list of power plants that emit excessive air pollutants in Shandong.[4]
