KSRM Sitakunda steel plant, also known as Kabir Steel Rolling Mills, is a steel plant in Sitakunda, Chittagong, Bangladesh that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Sitakunda, Chittagong, Bangladesh:
- Location: Ghoramora, Bara Kumira, Sitakunda, Chittagong, Bangladesh
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 22.499834, 91.715778 (exact)
Background
KSRM was established in 1984 with semi-re-rolling mill of 100 ttpa capacity, which was raised to 800 ttpa eventually with Europe's Pomini technology. As of August 2023, the company is increasing its production capacity from 600 to 800 ttpa.[1] The plant operates a 56MW gas-based captive power plant established in 2020.[2]
The company began in the shipbreaking industry before adding steel production using scrap steel from ships.[3][4] The shipbreaking industry, with its largest node in Chittagong, has been widely reported for concerns with dangerous working conditions and pollution.[5]
