Background

The Kaltansky coal mine is operated by Kuzbassrazrezugol, which is owned by Ural Mining Metallurgical Company.

It originally consisted of two mines, the Kaltansky and Osinnikovsky mines, which have been merged into a single mine. (Note that this mine is separate from the Ossinikovskaya coal mine, an underground mine about 20 km away.)[1]

As of 2019, the capacity of Kaltansky coal mine is about 4 million tonnes per year.[2] Previously it was stated at 3.5 million tonnes per year.[3]

There are no 2022 production figures, however Kuzbassrazrezugol reported in its 2022 annual report that the volume of well drilling and the volume of rock blasting at the mine increased by 69% and 53%, respectively, compared with 2021. This is an indication that production increased in 2022 as well.[4] Significant production growth is in line with Kuzbassrazrezugol's earlier plans to increase production at this mine.[5]
