Background

Kapila Metals Pvt. Ltd. (KMPL) proposed the development of steel plant with a Sponge iron production capacity of 1000TPD, Captive Power 50 MW, Billets 1000TPD and / or TMT Bar 1000 TPD at plot measuring approximately 11.60 ha In Jala district of Maharashtra, India.[1] The steel unit, initiated in 2011, was on hold till 2014 on account of unfavourable market conditions. The execution of the project got further delayed as the environment clearance was accorded only in 2017. Land has been already acquired for the project and detailed project report (DPR) is ready.[2] A pre-feasibility report submitted by the company in 2021 proposed the expansion of the capacity of sponge iron plant from 1000 TPD to 3000 TPD, of billets from 1000 TPD to 3000 TPD and installation of 2.0 MTPA pellet plant.[3]
