Background

The Kapitalna coal mine (formerly Stakhanov Coal Mine) is an underground coal mine in Myrnohrad, Donestk Oblast, Ukraine.

The Kapitalna coal mine is an underground coal mine, renamed "Kapitalna" in 2017, prior to which it was called "Stakhanov."[3]

Its initial capacity was said to be 2.4 -4 million tons per year.[3][4]

A media source from December 2022 stated that the mine was still producing despite on-going war in the region. For more than 15 years, the mine's production has never reached 1 million tonnes, with current production at 700-800 tonnes (per day). The mine is not profitable but supplies coal to the thermal power stations.[4] Another source from October 2022 referred to monthly production of about 16,000 tonnes (about 0.19 Mt per annum).[5]

In 2021, the three coal mines of Myrnohradugol (Kapitalna, Central and Mine 5/6) produced 0.4 million tonnes.[6]
