Background
The Khanyisa Colliery is a mining complex owned by the Salungano Group (formerly known as Wescoal Holdings) near Ogies, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The Khanyisa Complex is comprised of the historical Khanyisa mining area (mined out), as well as the Catwalk (pillar and roof mining) and the Triangle (virgin ground) areas, all of which have been consolidated into one mining complex.[10]
According to Salungano's 2023 annual report, coal reserves for Khanyisa were depleted in FY2023, and initiatives are being pursued to extend the life of mine. During this interim period, the mine will remain under care and maintenance.[10][11]
