Background

Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy Coal Mine (Краснобродский Южный разрез) is a surface mine in Kemerovo, Russia.

It is not to be confused with Krasnobrodsky coal mine (run by a different company, Kuzbassrazrezugol), which is located both to the north and to the south of the Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy mine. It is not to be confused with Krasnobrodsky coal mine (run by a different company, Kuzbassrazrezugol), which is located both to the north and to the south of the Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy mine.

Krasnobrodsky-Yuzhniy LLC owns and operates the mine.

The metallurgical coal is consumed both domestically and exported to European and Asian markets.

The mine closed because of a bankruptcy in 2019, but then reopened and continued to operate in 2020. In the first half of 2020, it produced 215 thousand tonnes, and increased deliveries of met coal to domestic users. There was an auction to sell off the remaining assets of the mine in the second half of 2020. It appeared that the property of the mine was acquired by Draizen LLC in late 2020.

Bankruptcy proceedings appeared to be still ongoing, as of October 2023. But it was not clear if the mine is producing. A media source from April 2023 mentioned that the company generated revenues during 2022, it is therefore possible that the mine is producing.
