Background
Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd. (LMEL) was incorporated in 1977 as a steel manufacturing company. In 1994 LMEL commissioned the 1st part of the Ghugus Unit (Unit 1) and began our production, with an annual capacity of 150 thousand metric tonnes.[1] LMEL began operations of the Konsari steel plant in 2023 with an annual production capacity of 72 thousand metric tonnes per annum (ttpa).[2]
In 2021, the company proposed expansion of Iron Ore Beneficiation from 63 ttpa to 2,00,000TPA, Sponge Iron capacity to 459 ttpa by installing additional 2X100 TPD and 2X500 TPD), Captive Power Plant (WHRB) (4 MW to 22 MW and New 15 MW AFBC).[3] The company also plans addition of steelmaking capacity of 3000 ttpa using basic oxygen furnace route to be commissioned by 2030.[4][5]
The company commissioned a pellet plant of capacity 4 mtpa at the Konsari plant in June 2025.[6]
In October 2025, the company announced an investment of INR 250 million to set up a 4.5 mtpa blast furnace at the Konsari plant by 2027-28.[7]
