Background

The Lugovoye Coal Mine (разрез Луговое) is an operating surface coal mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.

The Lugovoye coal mine is a surface coal mine. It is operated by Lugovoye JSC which is owned by TalTEK. The mine is located in the area of the former Dalniye Gory underground mine.

The mine's reported capacity is 0.6 million tonnes per year as of October 2023, up from reported 0.5 million tonnes in October 2022. [3][4]

In 2020 the coal mine produced 0.483 million tonnes.[5] In the first 6 months of 2022, the mine produced 0.264 million tonnes of coal.[6]

TalTEK planned to increase the mine's capacity to 0.9 million tonnes per annum over 2018-2020.[3]

In September 2022, the governor of Kuzbass said that new mine projects are on hold due to infrastructure restrictions of coal exports through the Eastern route of Russian Railways, only the projects that are nearing completion are being finished.[7] Given this announcement and a lack of updates on the progress, the expansion project is considered Shelved.
