Background
The Mustika Indah Permai (MIP) coal mine is operated by Pt Mustika Indah Permai, a subsidary of Adaro Energy, in the Lahat regency, South Sumatra province, Indonesia.[8] MIP's majority owner, Adaro Energy, began commercial operation in 2019 on a 20 year IUP concession granted in 2010.[9][10]
In 2012, Adaro Energy, completed a detailed 30 year mine plan and set up offices in Lahat in 2011. The original plan was to ramp up coal production to three to four million tonnes per year by 2014 and boost production to ten million tonnes per annum, five years from the time operations commenced.[11] After operations commenced in 2019, there have been no public announcements about successive project phases.
