Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL) is a subsidiary of Nava Bharat (Singapore) Pte. Limited (65%) with the remianing 35% stake held by ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc., a Government of Republic of Zambia company.[1] (Nava Bharat also has interests in coal-fired power stations in India and coal exploration in Tanzania.[2]

Maamba power station

The mine-mouth Maamba power station is currently under construction to utilise low grade coal left over from coal processing at the Maamba mine. The first 150 MW Unit is scheduled to be completed by October 2014, and the second 150 MW Unit by January 2015. The capacity may be increased to 600MW in the second phase, depending on demand for power in the region.[3] (See Maamba power station for more details).
