The Madanpur Coal Mine Project is a proposed mine, owned by Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation Limited, with a capacity of 9.6 million tonnes per annum, in Hasdeo Arand coalfield in District Korba, State Chhattisgarh, India.

The Madanpur coal block is divided in Madanpur North and Madanpur South, two mines, is spearated by Bisrar nala.

Background on Mine

The proposed mine sits on on a combined mining lease area of 2850.772 ha in Hasdeo Arand coalfield is located in District Korba, State Chhattisgarh, India. The Madanpur coal block is divided in Madanpur North and Madanpur South, two mines, is spearated by Bisrar nala.

Originally, the proposed Madanpur North coal mine project of 4.1 MTPA (opencast 2.8 MTPA + underground 1.3 MTPA) capacity on a lease area of 2138.7 Ha was allotted to a joint venture company Madanpur (North) Coal Company Private Ltd promoted by a consortium of five companies, namely, Ultratech Ltd., Singhal Enterprise Ltd., Nav bharat Coalfields Ltd., Prakash Industries Ltd., Anjani Steel Pvt. Ltd., Chhattisgarh Captive Coal Mining Ltd.[1] However, due to the failure of the Company to timely develop the mine project led to the government cancelling the allocation to them on 13 January 2014.[2] As of today the mine is listed for further allocation by the ministry of coal through e-auction process.[3]

The proposed Madanpur South opencast coal mine project of 5.4 MTPA on a mining lease area of 712.072 ha is being developed by Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation Limited. The company is in the process of developing the mine and seeking forest and environment clearances.[4]
