Background on Mine
The mine, also known as the Meera Incline coal mine project, is an underground mine with a designed capacity of 0.375 million-tonnes-per-annum on an area of 308.28 Ha.
The mine started as part of the cluster Govinda Colliery and Radha UG with a combined capacity of 0.512 MTPA. The mines started productions in 1990, however, the Govinda Colliery and Radha Colliery closed in 1999 and 2013 after exhaustion of their capacity. They operated under the consent received from the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board under Air and Water Pollution Control Act. However, for Meera UG to continue operation it had to seek fresh environment Clearance from MoEF&CC India. An application t that effect was made in 2014-15.<ref name=PR>
