Background
Mine at Ha Lam is operated by Ha Lam Coal Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam National Coal (Vinacomin), in Vietnam.[15] The mine is operated by Ha Lam Coal Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam National Coal (Vinacomin).[15]
In July 2019, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Hanoi approved an exploration project at Ha Lam coal mine. According to planning project 403 for Ha Lam mine area until 2020, there will be one new project under -50m with a capacity of 2,400 thousand tons per year, and over the 2021 to 2030 period, there will be one new project with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year, exploited with the protection pillars. It is expected that after implementing all the items of exploring activities, the coal reserves and resources will reach more than 81 million tons.[16]
For 2024, the company targeted 2.4 million tonnes of raw coal production and nearly 12,000 metres of new tunnelling; in the first half of that year it produced 1.23 million tonnes, and average worker pay was about VND 19.3 million/month (VND 26.8 million for underground miners).[17]
Entering 2025, the company set a target of 2.4 million tonnes mined, 12,300 metres of new tunnelling, over 2.2 million tonnes sold, and revenue above VND 3,200 billion; production resumed immediately after the Tết holiday, with 2,545 staff (2,057 of them direct labour) reporting for the first shift on February 3, 2025, and the company producing 93,862 tonnes (50.7% of the monthly plan) by February 18.[18]
