Extension

In 2019, coal at shallow levels of the mine was exhausted. In order to maintain the mine, Vinacomin assigned Mao Khe company to implement the Mao Khe project to exploit pit mining below depths of 150 meters. Mining operations at this level were expected to generate coal starting in 2021.[10]

The project, which has a planned capacity of 2 million tons per year and an expected life time of 32 years, was first proposed in November 2014.[10]
