Background

Mine at Nga Hai is an operating underground coal mine in Duong Huy commune, Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam.[7] It is owned by Quang Hanh Coal Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam National Coal (Vinacomin).[8] The mine has a capacity of 1.7 Mtpa and production of 1.28 Mtpa (2021), with approximately 1,760 workers.[9] It produces anthracite thermal coal and uses longwall mining.[9]

In April 2025, Quang Hanh Coal Company extracted its first tonne of coal at a depth of -300 metre as part of the Nga Hai deep mining project below -50 metre.[10] The project began in 2020, and by March 2025 over 7,700 metre of tunnels had been completed.[10] On 2 April 2025, it extracted its first 150 tonnes of coal.[10]
