Background

Mine at Trang Bach is an operating underground coal mine in Trang Bach mine industrial yard, Mao Khe town, Dong Trieu, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam.[7] It is owned by Uong Bi Coal Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam National Coal (Vinacomin), and has a production of 2.67 Mtpa.[8] The mine uses longwall mining and produces bituminous thermal coal.[8] Since 2022, Uong Bi Coal Company has operated a fully mechanized mining line in the Hong Thai area of Trang Bach mine, with a designed capacity of 250,000 tons of coal per year.[9]

In August 2025, construction began on the Tan Yen underground mining project at Dong Trang Bach mine, with a designed mining capacity of 450,000 tons of raw coal per year and the first longwall face in the first quarter of 2028.[10] Mineral reserves for some coal mines in Quang Ninh were approved in a related decision.[11] A coal conveyor system from Trang Bach mine to Mao Khe was also inaugurated.[7][12]
