Background
The Uông Bí Coal Mine is a coal mine in Quảng Ninh Province, Vietnam. The Uông Bí coal mine is operated by Uông Bí Coal Company (Công ty Than Uông Bí), a subsidiary of state-owned coal company Vinacomin.[11][12] The mine has a production capacity of 2.04 Mtpa and approximately 2,593 workers, and has been in operation since 1979.[13][14] It uses longwall mining to extract anthracite thermal coal and has been expanding to depths of 350 meters.[15]
The Dong Vong - Uong Thuong coal mine has a complex history involving foreign investment; in 1991, Uong Bi Coal Company signed a 30-year contract with Pt. Vietmindo Energitama, an Indonesian company, to exploit the mine.[16]
In June 2026, a worker at Uong Bi Coal Company died following a labor accident at the Trang Bach mine's upper level -150/-10 in the Southwest area.[17]
