Background

On June 18, 2022, land preparation for the proposed steel plant began at Mount Zynai Industrial Park in Diplahan town of Zamboanga Sibugay. Philippines-based Mount Zynai Corporation and Chinese company Shenzhou investor Corporation will jointly build an industrial park complex in Zamboanga which will include the country's first integrated smelting and steel plant. The plant will produce 1.5 million tons of steel per year by processing iron ore from a mining site in Zamboanga.
