Background

N R Ispat and Power Pvt Ltd was established in 2007 and commenced operations in 2008.^[1] The plant facilities include two 100-ton direct reduced iron (DRI) kilns, two induction furnaces (IF) and a rolling mill with a capacity of 250-300 tons per day accompanied by an 8-megawatt power plant—4 megawatts in FBC (Fluidized Bed Combustion) and 4 in WHRB (Waste Heat Recovery Boiler)—to support the in-house power needs.^[1] The plant sources its iron ore from captive iron ore mines in Barbil, Odisha. NR ISPAT has embarked on expansion plan including a 60-megawatt power plant, two 650-tons per day DRI kilns, five 20-ton furnaces, and the introduction of a plate mill and a Structure Mill.^[1]^[2]^[3]

The plant completed first phase of expansion by January 2025.^[4]
