Background

The project is part of the Trans Kalimantan Gas pipeline Project which also includes Central Kalimantan-South Kalimantan Gas Pipeline and West Kalimantan-Central Kalimantan Gas Pipeline.[4] In January 2018 the Indonesian government announced that a contract to build the pipeline would be tendered at an estimated cost of US $518 million.[5][3] In July 2019 the government announced that it would seek private financing for the project.[6] As of January 2021, the tender process for the pipeline had not started.[7][8] As per BPH Migas' performance report 2021, the construction is expected to begin in 2023.[9] However, the proposed revision to the BPH Migas' performance report 2022 pushed the construction target beyond 2024.[10]
