Background

The project is part of the Trans Kalimantan Gas pipeline Project which also includes Natuna-West Kalimantan Gas Pipeline and Central Kalimantan-South Kalimantan Gas Pipeline. In January 2018 the Indonesian government announced that a contract to build the pipeline would be tendered at an estimated cost of US$516.4 million. In July 2019 the government announced that it would seek private financing for the project..As of January 2021, the tender process for the pipeline had not started. As per BPH Migas' performance report 2021, the construction is expected to begin in 2023. However, the proposed revision to the BPH Migas' performance report 2022 pushed the construction target beyond 2024.
