Background

The New Clydesdale Colliery (NCC) is a complex of surface and underground mine sites owned by TerraCom and Ndalamo Resources, and located some 140 km from Johannesburg in the Kriel District, within the Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.[5]

The NCC consists of the Roodekop, Diepspruit, and Diepspruit West project sites.[5] The New Clydesdale Colliery is a multi-product open cast and underground mine with the ability to produce domestic and export quality product. NCC has a 1.6 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) off-take agreement with Eskom, South Africa’s largest power generator, until 2024, and an export offtake for 650 thousand tonnes per annum with a global trader.[5]

The colliery has changed ownership on several occasions, and its list of previous owners include Universal Coal and Exxaro Coal.[6][7] Today, it is co-owned by TerraCom and Ndalamo Resources. (In June 2020, TerraCom acquired 100% of Universal's shares.)[8]
