Background

The Novokazansky-2 coal mine (разрез Новоказанский-2) an operating surface coal mine near the town of Bolshaya Talda, in the Prokopyevsky and Novokuznetsk districts, in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. The Novokuznetsk coal company Resurs LLC (OOO "Ресурс") acquired the Novokazansky-2 site in 2017.[2]

The mine began operations in 2019 with capacity of 1-3 mtpa.[3] By 2020, the company reported that the mine's capacity is 5.5 million tonnes per annum.[4] The project is part of the Russian Government's 'Programme for the Coal Industry Development to 2035' (from June 2020).[5]

Jointly with Kyrgaisky Sredniy coal mine also owned by Resurs LLC, the Novokazansky-2 coal mine mine produced 7.4 million tons in 2020[6] and 7.1 million tonnes in 2021[7] and 8.5 million tonnes in 2022 (total for Resurs LLC).[8] No individual break-down is available.

The majority of coal produced by Resurs is exported.[9][10]
