Background

The Nucor Steel Brandenburg plant was proposed by Nucor Steel in March 2019. The plant was originally said to cost $1.35 billion and is expected to begin operations in mid-2022, with 400 full-time employes.[1] Nucor announced they would source the electric arc furnace for the plant from the Danieli company.[2] According to Nucor, the intention for building the facility was to give the company the ability to produce 97 percent of the products demanded in the domestic plate market.[3]

Construction of the plant began in October 2020.[4] By this time, the cost of the facility had increased to $1.7 billion.[5]
