Background

The Nucor Steel Hickman plant began operating in 1992 and produces hot-rolled sheet steel for automotive, appliance, construction, pipe and tube, and many other applications.[1] The plant was a result of a joint venture between Nucor and Yamato Kogyo.[2] In 2018, the company recycled approximately 22.2 million net tons of scrap steel.[3]

In 2019, Nucor Corporation finished its $230 million cold-mill complex expansion that they started in 2017.[4] Later that year, they announced they were adding a coil-paint line to the plant to compete in new markets, including roofing, siding, light fixtures, and appliances.[1]

Environmental Compliance

In 2015, Nucor Steel Hickman exceeded their permitted effluents limits for Total Recoverable Nickel and was fined $20,600 by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.[5]
