OMK Ecolant steel plant (Металлургический завод Эколант (Russian)), also known as OMK Vyksa, is a 1800 thousand tonnes per annum (TTPA) direct reduced iron (DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant under construction in Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Location

The map below shows the location of the steel plant in Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

  • Location: Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia[1][2]
  • Coordinates (WGS 84): 55.323946, 42.150702 (approximate)

Background

The plant might supply some of its steel to the OMK Vyksa Casting and Rolling Complex.[3][4]

In January 2023, OMK was looking into buying the Prioskolskoye iron ore deposit as it did not have its own source of iron ore for the Ecolant steel plant.[5]

As of October 2023, the construction is ongoing, however, it is unclear what company will be supplying equipment for the project on the background of sanctions imposed as a result of the Russia's invasion of Ukraine.[6] Previously, Italian company Danieli had been contracted for the job.[7]
