Background

In 2013, nine oil companies - Amerisur, Ecopetrol, Petrominerales, Vetra, Southeast Investment Corporation, Pacific Stratus Energy, Grantierra, Petroleum Colombia and Petronova - signed a contract with Petroecuador for rights to use the OSLA pipeline to transport Colombian crude oil into Ecuador.[7] The oil is brought from Colombia to the Ecuadorian border via the OSO Pipeline, then transported via the OSLA Oil Pipeline to Lago Agrio, Ecuador, where it can be fed into the SOTE Oil Pipeline and the Crudos Pesados Oil Pipeline for transport to the Balao export terminal in Esmeraldas, on Ecuador's Pacific coast.[8]
